Book and Toy Drive
As part of National Sikhi Week and in the spirit of Sarbat Da Bhalla, the British Organisation of Sikh Students (BOSS) together with the UK’s Sikh Societies, are launching a Shaheedi book and toy appeal to support this initiative by the Wahegru Foundation (http://www.wahegru.org/).
The aim is to collect books and toys for the children’s charities Acorns Hospice and The Children’s Society. The appeal is in honour of the Shaheeds of the Sikh nation who laid down their lives when confronting oppressive regimes and keeping the flame of freedom alive.
Sikh societies will be collaborating with other societies on campuses for this worthy cause by either raising money to buy books and toys or collecting new books and toys from friends, family, fellow students, colleagues and staff.
Students across the country will buy and collect brand new toys and books that cater for children from the ages of 6 months to 19 years of age.
The Wahegru Foundation have very kindly set up a grant giveway. Sikh societies that collect the most number of books and toys will win a grant of up to £300 to spend on their society! The 2nd placed univeristy will win £200 and the 3rd placed will win £100. This is a huge incentive to go all out with the book and toy collection!
Head on over to www.bookandtoydrive.com/competition for further information and to register your society to be in with a chance of winning a prize for your university/college.
The deadline for collection at colleges and universities will be Friday 15th December 2017. There will be collection points across the UK. Please get in touch to find out more.
